Working out how much material you need to fill a space is the sort of maths that is easy to get wrong, and getting it wrong is expensive — order too little concrete and the pour stalls, order too much gravel and you have paid for a pile you cannot use. This calculator does the geometry for you. You build up your job from one or more shapes: a rectangular box or slab, a cylinder for a post hole or tank, a hollow tube or ring beam, a sphere, a cone or heap, or a triangular prism for a ramp or wedge. Each shape has just the dimension boxes it needs — length, width and depth for a box; diameter and height for a cylinder; base, height and length for a prism — and you can enter them in millimetres, centimetres, metres, inches or feet.
As you type, every shape is drawn on the printable sheet as a clear labelled diagram with its dimensions marked, and its individual volume is shown beside it. Set a quantity if you have several identical items (say a row of ten post holes) and it multiplies for you. At the top of the sheet a totals panel adds everything together and shows the grand total four ways at once — cubic metres, litres, cubic feet and cubic yards — so you can talk to any supplier in the units they use.
Pick a material — ready-mix concrete, bagged concrete, cement, gravel, sand, topsoil, mulch or water — and the sheet adds an order estimate using typical densities, with a waste allowance you control for spillage, over-dig and compaction. It works out an approximate weight in kilograms or tonnes, or a number of bags for bagged products, so you have a shopping figure as well as a volume. The finished page, with its diagrams, per-shape volumes, grand total and a notes area for a supplier quote, makes a tidy one-page record you can take to the yard or keep with the job.
Printing at exact scale
Every sheet is drawn in real millimetres and prints at exact physical scale. For accurate output, set Scale = 100% (Actual size) and Margins = None in your browser's print dialog. Not sure your printer is honest? Run the printer ruler test first to confirm 50 mm really measures 50 mm. Prefer a file? Use the PDF, PNG or SVG buttons to download the sheet instead of printing — PDF and SVG keep the exact dimensions, and PNG is a 300 DPI image.

What shapes can I calculate?
Rectangular boxes and slabs, cylinders (post holes, tubes, tanks), hollow tubes or rings, spheres, cones or heaps, and triangular prisms (ramps and wedges). You can add as many as your job needs and mix shape types on one sheet.
Which measurements do I enter?
Only the ones each shape needs. A box uses length, width and depth; a cylinder uses diameter and height; a hollow tube uses outer and inner diameter plus length; a sphere uses diameter; a cone uses base diameter and height; a triangular prism uses the triangle base, triangle height and length. Enter them in mm, cm, m, inches or feet — each shape can use its own unit.
How is the volume calculated?
Each shape uses its standard geometric formula (for example length×width×depth for a box, πr²h for a cylinder, ⅓πr²h for a cone). All dimensions are converted to metres first, so the total is exact regardless of the units you type in.
What units is the total shown in?
All at once: cubic metres (m³), litres, cubic feet (ft³) and cubic yards (yd³). Concrete and soil are usually ordered in cubic metres or cubic yards; litres is handy for small mixes and tanks.
Can it tell me how many bags or tonnes to buy?
Yes. Choose a material — concrete, cement, gravel, sand, topsoil, mulch or water — and the sheet estimates the weight in kilograms or tonnes, or a bag count for bagged products, using approximate densities. Always confirm the exact figure with your supplier, as real densities vary with moisture and grade.
What is the waste allowance for?
It adds a percentage on top of the raw volume for the material you will inevitably lose to spillage, over-excavation, compaction and uneven ground. Ten percent is a common starting point; increase it for rough or uneven jobs.
Can I work out concrete for a slab and footings together?
Yes — add a box shape for the slab and a cylinder for each footing (or one cylinder with a quantity), and the totals panel sums them into a single concrete order.
Does it handle quantities of the same shape?
Yes. Set the quantity on any shape and its volume is multiplied automatically — ideal for a run of identical post holes, planters or pads.

How do I get an exact-scale print?
Choose your paper size, then in the print dialog set Scale to 100% or “Actual size” and Margins to None. The sheet is defined in real millimetres, so it prints at true size. Use the calibration ruler page to verify.

A4, A5, A3, A6, US Letter, Legal and Tabloid, in portrait or landscape. Pick the size that matches the paper loaded in your printer.
Can I save it as a PDF instead of printing?
Yes — choose “Save as PDF” as the printer in your browser's print dialog. The PDF keeps the exact millimetre dimensions.
Can I download it as an image (PNG or SVG)?
Yes — as well as Print and PDF, every sheet has a PNG and an SVG download button. PNG gives you a high-resolution (300 DPI) image at the exact page size, ideal for pasting into a document or sharing. SVG is a scalable vector file that stays razor-sharp at any size and can be edited in tools like Inkscape or Illustrator. Both are generated in your browser from the sheet you see on screen.
