Lay an existing ring flat over the grid of actual-size circles and read off the size on the circle whose outline matches the ring’s inside edge. Or cut out the tape-measure strip, wrap it around the base of the finger with the numbers facing out, pull it snug and read the size where the 0 end meets the scale. The conversion table lines up US sizes (3 to 13 in half steps) against inside diameter in millimetres, inside circumference, UK letter sizes, European (circumference) sizes and Japanese sizes, so a ring bought in one country can be matched anywhere. Inside diameter is the straight-across measurement of the inside of the band; inside circumference is the distance around that inner edge, which is what a finger-wrap measurement gives you.

How do I measure my ring size with this chart?

Why does the printout have to be at 100% scale?

What is the difference between inside diameter and circumference?

Inside diameter is the straight-across distance of the ring’s inner opening. Inside circumference is the distance all the way around that inner edge (diameter × π). A finger-wrap measurement gives circumference; a ring laid on the circles gives diameter. The table lists both.

How do US, UK and EU ring sizes convert?

The table maps them directly. For example a US 7 is roughly a UK N½, an EU 54 and about 17.3 mm inside diameter. US uses numbers, the UK and Australia use letters, and European sizes are based on the inside circumference in millimetres.

When is the best time to measure a finger?

At the end of the day and when you are warm — fingers are largest then and smaller when cold. Measure two or three times, take the average, and size up slightly if a knuckle is much wider than the base of the finger.

Can I use it to size a ring someone already wears?

Yes — that is the most reliable way. Take a ring they wear on the right finger, lay it flat over the circles, and the circle that matches its inside edge is the size. Doing it this way avoids having to measure their finger at all.
