Working out the gap between two dates by hand is fiddly — months have different lengths, leap years add a day, and once you want hours or seconds the arithmetic gets ugly. This sheet does all of it instantly. Pick your two dates (and, if you like, the exact times) and it produces a clean one-page reference showing the duration in every common unit at once: years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds.
The result is shown two ways. The calendar breakdown counts full years and months first, the way people naturally describe long spans, then the leftover days (and, with times on, hours, minutes and seconds). The totals view instead expresses the whole gap in one unit — total weeks, total days, total hours and so on — which is what you want for billing, statistics or trivia. Both come from the same two dates, so you can read whichever suits the moment.
It's handy for counting down to a wedding or holiday, tracking how long ago something happened, working out an age or an anniversary, checking a contract or notice period, or answering a child's 'how many days until…?'. Turn on times of day for precision to the second, or leave them blank for whole-day results. An inclusive option counts both the first and last day — useful when counting how many days an event or leave period spans.

How is the time between two dates calculated?
The sheet counts the exact interval from the start moment to the end moment. The calendar breakdown counts whole years, then whole months, then the remaining days (and hours/minutes/seconds if you enter times), accounting for different month lengths and leap years. The totals column converts the entire interval into a single unit.
What's the difference between the two views?
The calendar breakdown splits the gap into years + months + days the way a person would describe it. The totals show the same gap expressed wholly in one unit — e.g. the same span might be 3 years 2 months, or 1,161 days, or 27,864 hours.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. The calculation uses real calendar dates, so 29 February and the extra day in leap years are counted correctly.
Can I include the time of day?
Yes. Fill in the optional start and end time fields for a result precise to the second. Leave them blank and both dates are treated as midnight for whole-day results.
What does counting both end days do?
By default the sheet measures the interval between the two dates. The inclusive option adds one day so both the first and last day are counted — useful for counting how many days an event, booking or leave period spans.
Can the end date be before the start date?
Yes — the sheet still shows the duration and notes that the end is earlier. The size of the gap is the same either way.

How do I get an exact-scale print?
